The 2024–25 NHL season is almost here, and excitement is running high. This year is about more than just winning the Stanley Cup; it’s about seeing history being made. With some of the biggest names in hockey about to reach historic milestones, the season is sure to be exciting and full of memorable experiences.
The Search for the Great One by Ovechkin
Alex Ovechkin is the center of attention as he persistently attempts to surpass Wayne Gretzky’s record for most goals scored in an NHL game. With 41 goals still to play, Ovechkin needs to beat Gretzky’s record of 894 goals. It would be extremely difficult to surpass this supposedly unbreakable record in a single season, but Ovechkin has constantly exceeded expectations in his career. Is it possible for him to repeat it? Every shot he makes will have hockey fans all across the world holding their breath.
Crosby’s Rise to 1,600 and Higher Points
Another legend in the game, Sidney Crosby, is on track to score 1,600 points this season. With just four more points to go, he will join an exclusive group of NHL legends, having already accumulated 1,596 points. Crosby, who is renowned for his ability to create plays and dominate the attacking zone, will be even more cemented in hockey history as a result of this accomplishment. But the issue remains: will he stop there? The fact that Crosby is only eight goals away from reaching 600 goals adds even more mystery to his season.
March of the Iron Man to 1,500 Games
The model of consistency and longevity, Ryan Suter, is getting closer to reaching the remarkable milestone of 1,500 games played. With 1,444 games played thus far, Suter only needs 56 more to accomplish this incredible feat. This accomplishment is evidence of his steadfast commitment and capacity to compete at the highest level year after year. With 1,371 games played, Ovechkin is also on track to become a member of this elite group, demonstrating his tenacity and endurance.
Other Stars Gleaming
Even while Ovechkin and Crosby get most of the attention, other NHL players are working toward important goals as well:
- Evgeni Malkin: With two goals remaining, the Pittsburgh Penguins center is only four points short of reaching the 1,300-point milestone in his career.
- Patrick Kane: Now with the Detroit Red Wings, Kane is 16 points shy of 1,300. For 500, he also has to score 29 goals.
- Marc-Edouard Vlasic: This stalwart defenseman is closing in on 1,200 games played, needing only 14 more to achieve the mark.
A Time of Expectation and Excitation
The NHL season of 2024–2025 looks to be an exciting one full of memorable events and personal victories. Fans will be glued to their screens, wanting to see every goal, assist, and game played as these famous players continue to strive for greatness. Is Ovechkin going to unseat Gretzky in the end? Will Crosby keep moving up the scoring list at all times? What looks to be one of the most remarkable NHL seasons in recent memory holds the answers.
