Harmless Fun or a New Low?
The recently launched “Dank Days” bundle in Black Ops 6, the most recent game in the Call of Duty series, has caused criticism. A baseball bat that changes into a rave-themed cat and a bong-shaped sniper rifle are among the many drug-themed weapon skins and accessories included in this cosmetic pack. Some gamers have condemned the content for being insensitive and even encouraging drug use, while others find it amusing and harmless.
Examining the Bundle of “Dank Days”
The most recent in a line of cosmetic packs for Black Ops 6 is the “Dank Days” bundle. These packs give players the ability to customize their characters and weapons in several ways, from new skins to distinctive animations. The obvious drug references in the “Dank Days” package, however, make it stand out.
The bong-inspired “Blazed Bolt” sniper weapon is the main feature of the bundle. The weapon has a mouthpiece, a lengthy stem, and a glass bowl—all of which are accurately modeled in the game. The weapon’s drug-related concept is further highlighted by the smoke that emerges from the mouthpiece when it is fired.
The “Rave Cat” baseball bat is another contentious item in the bundle. With a glow-in-the-dark paint job, headphones, and a turntable, this weapon may be transformed into a feline DJ. Even the cat’s eyes light up red, simulating the effects of some medications.
Along with these two products, the “Dank Days” bundle also comes with a number of other accessories with a drug theme, like a sticker that says “420 Blaze It” and a charm that resembles a marijuana leaf.
An Account of Call of Duty’s Drug References
The Call of Duty series has previously featured references to drugs in its games. Characters have smoked cigarettes, used cocaine, and even grown marijuana in earlier games. But perhaps the most obvious and overt instance of drug-related content in the history of the series is the “Dank Days” package.
Public Response and Disputation
The Call of Duty community has responded to the “Dank Days” bundle’s release in a variety of ways. Some participants claim that the content is just a way for them to express themselves and find it amusing and harmless. However, the bundle has been attacked by some for being insensitive and maybe encouraging drug usage.
The bundle’s detractors contend that it minimizes the grave problem of drug addiction. They also note that the game is suitable for kids and teens due to its M for Mature rating. They worry that young people may view drug usage as normalized due to the bundle’s drug-themed content.
The Reaction of Activision
Call of Duty’s publisher, Activision, has not yet responded to the uproar surrounding the “Dank Days” bundle. Whether the business will respond to the criticism in any way is still up in the air.
Call of Duty’s Cosmetic Content Future
Concerns regarding the future of cosmetic content in Call of Duty are brought up with the introduction of the “Dank Days” package. Will Activision keep pushing the envelope with more contentious products? Or will the business adopt a more circumspect stance going forward? Time will tell.
