Both “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “It Ends With Us,” the flicks starring Hollywood power couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, are box office successes. It’s a friendly competition.
Marvel’s Combination Reaches $1 Billion
Reuniting Reynolds’ Deadpool with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, the Marvel film came very close to taking the top spot, grossing an estimated $54 million this weekend domestically. Its entire domestic revenue now stands at $494 million. The movie has officially crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, making it the second 2024 release to do so after Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.”
‘It Ends With Us’ by Lively Makes a Big Impact
In the meantime, the much-awaited “It Ends With Us” movie, which is based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling book, defied expectations by grossing a healthy $50 million at home. The movie made an additional $30 million overseas, bringing its total to an astounding $80 million. Lively plays florist Lily Bloom in the movie, who has to negotiate a tricky love triangle.
The couple rejoices in each other’s accomplishments.
Reynolds and Lively are savoring their joint triumph. Lively recently disclosed that the rooftop sequence from “It Ends With Us,” which is a fan favorite, was authored by her husband. She appeared alongside their two daughters in “Deadpool & Wolverine” as well.
Lively said of Reynolds, “He does everything I do,” to E! News. “I carry out all of his tasks. Thus, his victory and his celebration are mine and his are mine.”
Additional Box Office Standouts
Aside from the contest between Lively and Reynolds, other summer blockbusters are still doing rather well. “Twisters” contributed an additional $15 million, making its total domestic revenue $222 million. The movie has made $310 million worldwide in its four weeks on the big screen.
Despite having a stellar ensemble and director Eli Roth’s goal of creating a “bonkers and crazy” adventure, “Borderlands” had a dismal $8.8 million domestic opening ($16.5 million worldwide).
“Despicable Me 4,” which made $8 million in its sixth week of release, completes the top five. At this point, the fourth entry in Illumination’s successful franchise has brought in $330 million domestically and $807 million internationally.
In summary
The rivalry between Lively and Reynolds at the box office demonstrates how dominant the power couple is in Hollywood. “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “It Ends With Us” have both been huge hits, demonstrating the varied skills of this dynamic pair.
