A significant update for Baldur’s Gate 3 is scheduled for 2025, and Larian Studios has announced exciting new features like crossplay across all platforms and a dozen new subclasses to further diversity character builds.

Prepare to enter the Forgotten Realms again! According to Larian Studios, Baldur’s Gate 3 will get a major update in 2025, bringing with it several eagerly awaited improvements.  The so-called Patch 8 will bring crossplay to the PC, Mac, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, enabling gamers to go on adventures together on any platform.  Not only that, but the update will also introduce twelve new subclasses, giving character development and gameplay even more nuance and diversity.

Connecting the Realms through Crossplay

Crossplay has been one of the most requested features for Baldur’s Gate 3, and Larian Studios is providing it.  Players on PC, Mac, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 will be able to collaborate and explore the Forgotten Realms together thanks to Patch 8. This increases the opportunities for cooperative gaming and community engagement by allowing you to collaborate with friends on any platform they choose.

The upgrade will include cross-progression in addition to crossplay. This implies that players can continue their adventures on any device they want by easily transferring their saved data between devices.

New Subclasses Expand Character Options

Patch 8 will also introduce twelve new subclasses to Baldur’s Gate 3, one for each of the existing base classes.  These subclasses will offer new gameplay options, abilities, and spells, further diversifying character builds and allowing for greater customization.

The new subclasses include:

  • Bard: College of Glamour
  • Barbarian: Path of Giants
  • Cleric: Death Domain
  • Druid: Circle of Stars
  • Fighter: Arcane Archer
  • Monk: Drunken Master
  • Paladin: Oath of the Crown
  • Ranger: Swarmkeeper
  • Rogue: Swashbuckler
  • Sorcerer: Shadow Magic
  • Warlock: Hexblade
  • Wizard: Bladesinging

These subclasses introduce exciting new playstyles.  For example, the Hexblade Warlock can summon spirits of defeated enemies, while the Bladesinger Wizard combines swordplay with arcane magic.  Each subclass brings unique abilities and spells to the table, offering a fresh experience for both new and veteran players.

Not Just Subclasses and Crossplay

Although Patch 8’s primary features are crossplay and subclasses, Larian Studios has alluded to further improvements that will be included in the update.  These might include bug fixes, quality-of-life enhancements, and possibly even brand-new content to add to Baldur’s Gate 3’s already expansive universe.

A Dedication to Continued Assistance

Patch 8 is a symbol of Larian Studios’ continued dedication to Baldur’s Gate 3 support and giving players the greatest possible gaming experience.  The developers’ commitment to hearing user input and providing significant upgrades that improve gameplay and longevity is demonstrated by the addition of crossplay and new subclasses.

With Patch 8 on the horizon, Baldur’s Gate 3 is poised to become an even more immersive and engaging experience. The addition of crossplay will connect players across different platforms, fostering a larger and more vibrant community. The new subclasses will provide greater depth and variety to character creation and gameplay, offering endless possibilities for exploration and adventure in the Forgotten Realms.
